German Classes Celebrate Oktoberfest!

Princeton High School German classes celebrated Oktoberfest on Friday, September 21. Students learned that Oktoberfest is a German festival that takes place in Munich (München) for 16 days each year. The dates for 2007 are Saturday, September 22 - Sunday, October 7. The first Oktoberfest was held in 1810 to celebrate the marriage of Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese. The celebration was continued and lengthened in the following years. The start was moved into September to allow for better weather.
Students did more than just learn the history of Oktoberfest. They also listened to and sang along with some German music--"Schnitzelbank" was quite a hit! They were also able to sample various German foods, and many students will probably tell you that this was the best part! Students made (or sometimes bought) German specialties for the others to taste. Kartoffelsalat, Apfelkuchen, Spaetzle, and Kirschtorte are just a few of the delicious German foods students were able to try on Friday!
