Journalism Team Competes in Sectionals
Qualifies 4 students for State

The Princeton High School Journalism Team competed in Sectional Competition on April 19th at Western Illinois University. The 11 students on the team include Seniors Sean Castner and Aaron Kaufmann, Juniors Alyssa Donner and Carolyn Kurth, Sophomores Mandi Morrow and Ariel Rose and Freshmen Molly Baron, Hannah Brewer, Dylan Carlson, and Cyle Dickens. Freshman Brooke Davis was unable to compete in the tournament.
After a two and a half hour bus ride, (with a call time of 6:30 a.m.); the "J-Team" competed in two rounds of competition. The team overall earned a tie for 5th place with 32 points. NCIC neighbor school LaSalle Peru earned 1st place with 49 points.
Results were as follows: In Editorial Writing-Molly Baron earned a 1st place. In Yearbook Theme Development-Alyssa Donner and Carolyn Kurth earned a 2nd place. In InfoGraphics-Cyle Dickens earned a 3rd place finish. Fourth place finishes were earned by Aaron Kaufmann in Review Writing and Editorial Cartooning, while Mandi Morrow earned one in Newspaper Writing. Mandi also earned a 5th place finish in Yearbook Copy Writing. Alyssa Donner earned a 6th place finish in Newspaper Design. Also competing in the tournament were Sean Castner-Photography, Hannah Brewer-Yearbook Double Page Spread and Headline Writing, Molly Baron-Copy Editing, Dylan Carlson-Feature Writing, Ariel Rose-Sports Writing, and Carolyn Kurth-Advertising.
Molly Baron, Alyssa Donner, Carolyn Kurth, and Cyle Dickens have earned the right to compete at the IHSA Journalism State Competition next Saturday April 26th at Eastern Illinois University. Aaron Kaufmann is an alternate in his two events, while Mandi Morrow is an alternate in Newspaper Writing. The Journalism Team is coached by Mrs. Dixie Schroeder.
