Tigers Earn 2nd Place

March 18, 2008

The Princeton High School Special Olympic Basketball Team topped off a great season by competing in State Competition March 15th & 16th. The Tigers played tough basketball all weekend and came away earning a 2nd place finish in state overall. The Tigers played in the Athletic Center at Illinois Wesleyan University. 

On March 14th, the Tigers beat U-46 Blue Sars 47-26. Alan Wolbrecht, the team's captain led the way with 18 points. Dan Rowe and Tyler Lawson each had 6 points. Martice Vernon chipped in 5 points while Brandi Kirk added 4 points. Mike "The Snow Plow" Sedlacek and "Big" Tom Walton, Lani David and Chase Kupfershmid each added 2 points.

The Championship game was held Sunday. The Tigers played against Leyden Life. After a hard fought game which included being down by more than 10 points, the Tigers tied and took the lead for a short time. Leyden turned on the heat, and took the lead eventually earning a 50-39 win. Alan Wolbrecht again led the way with 21 points, Mike Sedlacek had 9 points, Martice Vernon had 7 points and Brandi Kirk had 2 points.

The Tigers 'good gamed' their opponents on Saturday.

Brandi Kirk and Dan Rowe were both awarded the sportsmanship awards. The Tigers were coached by Andy Puck, Pat Marquis, Noreen McConnell, and Andrew Pierson. Many of the Tiger's fans came down to cheer them on during Saturday's action including Coach Brandt and some of the Varsity Boys Basketball Team. The Special Olympians enjoyed the support.
